    There won’t be fewer crowds.

We did Red River spring break '21, and again post Christmas '21. Spring Break was awesome, aside from the leftover Kung Flu bs. Post Christmas was rough, lack of snow had the top and back of the mountain closed. The electronic lift checks were an upgrade, but it was crowded due to 1/2 the mountain being closed.

We really like the laid back town, brewery, and atmosphere. I'm a pretty average skier, at this point...but the mountain is good for the kiddos. I suspect we go to Colorado next year....but I dig Red River, we're going back in a couple weeks.

It's 9 hours from here, not sure about SA.

I would just go a little further out of New Mexico and go to wolf creek in Pagosa Springs, it’s worth it. Most snow In Colorado.

Fly to Denver and do Winter Park or Keystone. Another good option is flying to Albuquerque and do Sandia. Last of my recommendations is Sipapu, NM for the best home town ski resort feel you'll ever have. We did them all for about 20 years until travel soccer and baseball have taken a big toll in our availability.

Wolf Creek is awesome, but it's a **** hike from Pagosa Springs, probably closer to South Fork. It's a drive to either one, and traffic in and out daily kinda sucks.

I'd be curious what's keeping them from building a resort town around it, actually. Being closer to Texas it would stay full all the time. I imagine it's something to do with state owned lands, or somesuch.

Y'all are goofy. Apachevis a much better mountain than AF. Gondola. Longerc uns. And better black runs.

Ruidoso is a much nicer town than Taos.

Apache is not open yet and may not open. We will be in Taos next month, but Wolf Creek is another 1.5 hours away and has more snow. Took me 13.5 hours to get to Wolf Creek from SA last month

Toas gets my vote. It`s the closest for great skiing. I have driven and skied at all of the NM ski areas and Purgatory also. Hate driving up the mountain @ Ruidoso. You can fly to Durango if you want. After driving in several bad storms and having 1 wreck several years ago on our way to Durango I said I wasn`t going unless we flew. Steamboat was our destination after that. You can fly direct to Hayden and catch a shuttle into Steamboat. It cost a little more, but I never worried about the weather either. Best snow we ever skied on also.

We did Wolf Creek outside of Pagosa Springs over Christmas and it was a blast. Way cheaper than any of the other recommendations made, but there is about a 40 minute drive but we didn't mind it. They will have plenty of snow well into spring break.

Toas, Red River and angel fire are same mountain range, just different sides. As a crow flies they are all with in 15 miles of each other.

Ski Apache should just close its doors and let the mountain be reclaimed

I appreciate all the input! Flying isn't an option, we just don't have the cash to dump on this and I honestly don't like to fly unless work forces me to.

Ive heard nothing but good about Wolf Creek from die hard skiiers. Apparently the way and where it is situated causes it to be hammered with snow consistently when everywhere else is dry.

                          Have fun MrJustin

I wouldnt say its cheaper over all, but its a better mountain then anything in NM, ski wise. Wolf creek just means commuting up and down the pass every day. I had a cabin there for 20 plus years.

if you are going to wolf creek get a vbro booked pretty quick.

Angel Fire in February should be good. I like AF when there is snow. Town sux though..
if you don't like AF or there isnt great snow, go to red river.
if you don't like AF or RR go to taos (better be a descent skier at taos. not an easy mountain)
                                3 mountains within driving distances.
