    UFC 98 - Anyone Watching?

I've been following a play-by-play online, but wanted to hear from some TBH folks as well. Is anyone watching? What were your thoughts on the Serra/Hughes fight?

I know the results, but wanted to hear some opinions from folks who actually saw.

The 2 fights I cared about turned out like I'd hoped.

Hughes beat Serra by decision (I can't stand Serra)
          Machida beat Evans by KO

The Machida fight was awesome! One of the best knock outs ever.

As in Rashad Evans??? Wow, if so. Rashad has looked unstoppable.

The blog report from Sherdog said that it was a phenomenal KO. Wish I could have seen it, but alas, I do not have $50 left at the end of the month!

How was the Serra/Hughes fight? Did Hughes beat Serra, or just lay on him and keep him from doing anything? I like Matt Hughes, but he does get boring sometimes.

just got done watching online...serra/huhges was a pretty boring match...actually was EXTREMELY CLOSE...decision could have went either way...i personally felt serra should have one...he was more aggressive and did the most damage...hughes was just able to hold him down longer...but did absolutely minimal damage to serra...serra had matt VERY dazed in the first round...they were exchanging and serra came up...his head hit hughes in the jaw and matt could barely stand up...serra hit him with a few more punches and huhges was stumbling all over the place...after the round hughes asked his trainer if he got knocked out...he had no idea where he was...round 2 hughes laid on serra and did nothing...round 3 hughes held serra down for a little while then towards the end serra had a pretty sweet take down of huhges to end the fight...both fighters hugged and crushed their bad blood after the fight...hughes just doesnt seem to have that dominant ground and pound anymore (maybe he got it knocked outta him in the first round?)...

machida absolutely destroyed evans...unbelievable...barely got hit...and smoked rashad...awesome knock out...joe rogan gave him the mic and he wouldnt shut up...lol it was funny...but he deserved it...could be title holder for a long time...

Yeah, pretty much. I sure expected more from Hughes. It was like he just really didn't want the fight, his heart just wasn't there. And to top it off, he got a head butt to the chin, which knocked him silly and then Serra got in a couple of good hard licks that almost done him in. He barely pulled this fight off, cause it could have easily gone the other way.

Now the Machita fight........man that was totally awesome!! Rashad couldn't figure out which direction he was getting hit from.......and then he was knocked smooth out!

I was ecstatic with the Evans-Machida fight. The UFC's worst fear came true with Machida winning, but they are all eating crow now. Machida has finished his last 2 fights in spectacular fashion as compared to his previous fights. Now Joe Silva and Dana White can watch Machida reign on the lightweight division for a while. It is amazing to watch him fight. He takes no damage at all. I was glad to see Evans fall as I can't really stand the guy. Big mouth showoff got what was coming and that was a brutal KO at someone truly skilled in Mixed Martial Arts.

As for the Hughes-Serra fight, I was also happy with the outcome although it could have gone either way. Hughes was rocked in the first round but it was by an inadvertant headbutt. I still think he did enough to control the fight and that scores on the judges cards almost everytime.

i agree with you about the hughes control thing in the judges eyes because he was on top of serra most of the time, BUT i think when a fighter on the ground is attempting and getting close to submitting guys from the bottom, the top guy is not controlling the fight...but, the judges always give credit to the guy on top...but props to huhges for staying with it after virtually being knocked out!...guy is a warrior!
