    Owl roost questions

So an owl has taken to roosting in our outdoor shower at fish camp. Obviously he's pooping all over the place and making a mess. I like having it around though so I'm thinking I'd like to build it a structure to keep using and then put some chicken wire over the openings in the shower. It's not nesting, just using the shower roof for shelter to perch and hunt (I guess, not an expert). Anybody ever build a roost or perch for something like this? I'm thinking it wants to be covered otherwise it would just sit on top of the cabin.

We had one nest in a blind. By the time it left the blind we put the blind in the campfire. The smell was horrible...

I don't have an answer but make sure they dont nest. We had one do so a year or two ago and have young in a blind. We were told by our county biologist it was a crime to disturb the nest/ little ones so that pretty much had that blind out of commission most the season. Thankfully it was an open blind so we were able to clean it out pretty good afterwards.

I don't think it would nest, the floor in the shower has about a foot or so gap on three sides on the bottom and the floor is plastic boards with inch or so gap to drain water out. I may go ahead with the chicken wire patches just to be safe though. I'd feel guilty moving the nest as I'm sure the young wouldn't survive. I wouldn't mind building both a roost and a nesting box for it though.

I had an owl hatch chicks in one of our windowless blinds once. I built a box on the bottom of the blind, put the chicks in it and I guess it raised them on up because the box was full of owl poop and little bitty bones when we came back to fill feeders. Needless to say windows were put in all the blinds after that.

They are nasty little things and make a huge mess...
We had to wait a few months for these things to finally leave!

Yes, and had four to five inches of poop and bones in the stand. I just folded up the carpet and pulled it all out. Held my breath while I did it. Nasty work !

Them things live those plastic "Blynd" blinds. I remember back in the day we always had owls in them, we'd find the windows blown off somehow. Definitely ugly, look like a mangey chicken got hit in the face with a shovel.

I may or may not have ended up landing in a cactus patch on my back after 'invading' an owl nest that was located in one of our elevated box blinds back in the day

Call the Game Warden and have them catch and relocate. Problem solved.

I have this same problem every winter at our shop in Winnie. One year I swear like 4 moved in at the same time. I guess I closed them in there at some point and when I came back through the small walk through door it looked like a scene out of Harry Potter with all the owls flying and dodging through the ceiling joists.
