    Spotting scope value?

Looking at the Vortex Diamondback HD at $399 for the 65 or 499 for the 85..

Any opinion on if either are good for the money?

What are you going to used for?.
If you need to see every single point on a deer at long distance, well you will need something with better glass. If you want to check if a buck is mature with a nice frame, then they are good for that.

I don’t do any long range stuff. Inside of a couple hundred yards mostly. Probably mount an iPhone for pictures and range use.

I would ask myself if I were you, is 12x more zoom worth an extra 100$ to you and what your use will be, if you went with the 85mm objective?

For reference, granted not a vortex, but for power reference this is 450 yards on about 25x with my phone scope through my spotter. Picture is grainy cause it’s a screen shot of a video but you get the idea.

If just looking at bullet holes at the range or being able to take photos from a phone, the zoom on the 65mm objective is plenty good enough.

That’s pretty much what I figured as well. Thanks

I went with the Vortex Viper 20-60x 85mm HD Straight Spotting Scope.

Its heavy - I keep it mounted on a tripod.
                    Great clarity. Would recommend
