    Saltwater Boat Trailer?

Im starting the process of reworking a 21ft bay boat. First item will be a new aluminum trailer. Are there any must have or don't do's?

Ive been told make sure to get galvanized wheels rather than aluminum because of dissimilar metal between aluminum and the steel hub.

    Do I want 15" wheels?

    Best tires?

    What type of hubs?

Anything else? I plan to keep long term and trailer long distances. Don't mind spending the money to reduce chances of roadside drama.

I run two spares and if you go with Coastline Trailers, express your concerns and the lady will make sure your mind is at ease.

Make sure the hardware used on the trailer is stainless or galvanized. I almost bought a aluminum boat trailer and noticed all the hardware was carbon steel! Get galvanized leaf springs, u-bolts, etc…..

I sure like the 10 year no maintenance oil bath Vault bearings. I think new ones might be 5 year no maintenance, but either way one less thing to goof with. I put a lot of highway mileage on mine and never had a bearing issue.

No leaf springs, go with torsion axles & the good sealed hubs.
I would say Coastline is the way to go.
Definitely 15" wheels & look at the National trailer tires good for high speeds.

Same on our crab boats, in and out of ramp 200 plus times a year

Rolling Coastline - been a solid trailer. I carry one spare tire - galvanized wheels 15"

Have you ever maintenanced vault hubs?

Ive got them and torsion axles on my trailer and its a 2014. Never messed with them. Granted the last two years, it gets hauled to the lake and stays there all summer.

I sure haven't. My last set were 8 years old and the torsion axles were rusting really bad so I just ordered new sets and replaced the torsion axle assemblies complete with new Vault hubs and all.
