Good game. I called it at miidnight in the 15th so just missed the ending. We had our chance in regulation but it got away. Both played hard and hope to see both playing again later in the season.
Other than a lot of walks (and maybe some questionable offensive strategy, late), this was a pretty good game. Both teams can pull some positives out of this one. There were some really good defensive plays, and I think both teams may have found some unexpected middle relief. Ags missed some opportunities to score early and were fortunate to tie the score on four walks in the 9th and the two go ahead runs in the 16th with benefit of a wild pitch and consecutive errors (on tough plays) by the SS and a mishandled catch by the catcher on a throw from shallow right (Ags gave up a go-ahead run on a similarly mishandled play by the catcher in the 6th?)
Hard to believe that neither team had an extra base hit in a full 16 inning game.
Horns are seriously lacking in all aspects. We are keeping it close but no doubt a brutal season ahead. Hopefully we can find something to keep it respectable.

I had the pleasure of watching Coach Schloss operate in Ft Worth for 18 years. It’s pretty apparent that he loves small ball, as long as there’s no (or very very little) bunting involved. He’d much rather run, and play for the big inning. It does take some getting used to. If he had been an MLB national league manager, pitchers surely would have been swinging away in sacrifice situations. Believe me, it’ll all work out in the end!
I stepped away for a minute but why did Free #46 get pulled int he 8th? He was dealing some good stuff but when i came back they had changed out pitchers. Matchup stuff or was Free gettin sloppy?
UTRGV took the series from UH. Lost Friday night due to some sloppy play in extra innings, won big on Saturday and then won on a great pitching performance on Sunday. Tuesday night at Rice and then conference play starts. Vaquero's big HR hitter, Pimental, has not got on track, swinging at a lot of junk. Hopefully, something starts clicking or someone else steps up...we are missing our Blizzard Blasts !

I heard him discuss his philosophy on that early last season, and for the most part I'm ok with it. However, in late (or extra) inning situations - when you've had a couple of runners picked off or caught stealing, another batter out (and runner sent back to first) due to interference with the catcher, 17 runners LOB, zero base hits over the course of a 9+ inning stretch, 16 SOs AND (at least) 3 batters grounding into inning-ending DPs. - it may make sense to drop an occasional bunt following a leadoff walk (16 total walks plus a HBP.) I don't like the idea of giving up outs (especially as the visiting team), but at some point you have to try to manufacture a go ahead run, IMO.
That said, he's probably a little better at managing a game than I am.

Bravo has been our closer and locked sharp in previous outings. Tadlock likes to use these non conf games as proving grounds and learning experiences. I think he put Bravo in to put the freshman in a high tension, big moment away from a friendly home crowd. Worked out well for 2 outs…. Then that 27th out appeared to get his nerves. 4 straight walks, final one tying the game. He will either overcome that or be broken as a closer….
