So scientists can now redirect lightning strikes with lasers!

This is some serious science fiction stuff that is now a reality. Scientists in France have figured out how to make lasers mimic a lightning rod and redirect lightning strikes!

Researchers with the Polytechnic Institute of Paris guided the strikes from thunderclouds to places where they don't cause damage.

Technology strides have been made in the last 30 years to allow man to alter our weather a great deal. This is amazing and scary at the same time.

My niece needed this. My niece was driving her suburban a few days after Christmas and got struck by lighting. She said it was a bright light and loud boom like shooting a gun without ear protection. She went to dr and checked her heart and no problems. Her suburban was totaled and all the electrical system stunk and was burned out. Luckily she was able to control her car and get it off the road.

My underwear would have stunk and have been totalled.

        Glad she is ok.

And store it all in a virtually weightless device the size of a Micro USB card.
Entirely possible, but we have not been able to make any great strides in that direction so far.

My wife caught a bolt years ago and it bounced her and our baby at the time in a carrier, into the bushes by the front door. Scary stuff that electricity. This sounds odd but would be nice to keep it away from the front yard

Now they need to figure out how to redirect lightning strikes, to a point that can capture the electrical energy and feed the energy into a collection point for consumption.

If the lightning strike follows down the laser, why didn't it destroy the unit that was creating the beam ?

If you get 88.something gigawatts out of it, you can jump to the future..or past. At least according to Dr. Brown.

I asked this question too. Maybe it was shielded somehow.

Can we redirect the lightning to ATL, CA, NYC, Baltimore, DC and Chicongo?

                              Asking for a friend.
