    Electrical wiring help

Ok so I am replacing the exhaust fan in the bathroom and a little lost on wiring in the new one

The new fixture has 3 internal plugs
    Light
    Fan
    Heater

Only 2 switches in the wall for this
    One has red/white/black/ground
    Other has white/black/ground

    New fixture

Wiring that was in the old one

Need some help here before I shock myself and fall through the ceiling [emoji1787]

White is common. Ground is ground.

Black is line (hot). Red could be anything. Are the two switches set up as a three way, ie. Two switches operating the same circuit. Or are they jumpered to give independent power?

Calling in a professional might be your best plan of action here.

Was the last one fan light combo?
If so both black and red are switch legs and you’ll have to have 2 things switched together on new unit.
I’d do exhaust and light together

Nvm just saw there is a two wire romex and a three wire

They could have had it ran “California” style running power and common to fixture and power and switch legs down to switch box

Can we see wiring inside of switch box?

        Old fixture was
        Light
        Heat lamp
With exhaust wired to one but not sure which one as it never worked

Just an FYI if it has a heating element a lot of them need a dedicated circuit. Not to say it can’t work with what’s there but may be an issue.

Do you have a volt meter? You have two pieces of cable in the attic. 1 with black, white, and ground. The other has a black, red, white, and ground. Can you tell what wire works with what switch and are any of them hot with the switches turned off?

The romex is hot with all switches off

The two wire (white with only black, white and ground)?

Nothing hot on three wire(one containing the red)?

I misspoke earlier cold switch is what I was looking for not California although sort of the same but used in 3 way application

                          Without being there

I think you have cold switch set up
Meaning power run to fixture and the conductor and two switch legs on the three wire.
Use white from two as common at fixture
This assuming no power on either black or red on three wire regardless of switch being on with wires all disconnected in attic

But without knowing for sure it’s probably worth a service call
I’d hate for you to end up with two circuits on same phase sharing a common

Both black and white are hot?
