A friend and member of a sportsmen club I used to belong to was a felon. He hunted and shot competitions with flint locks and cap locks and even carried a navy colt for protection. There are ways to get er dun.

After let’s just say 25+ years that he could get an authorization to posse a firearm on family owned private property. I’m guessing best place to start would be with an attorney. Is this even possible. He doesn’t have a great deal of money to throw at an attorney. Anyone ever have a situation or suggestions in this type of matter. Thank you in advance
Tell him to contact Higbee and Associates, they handle stuff like that. I know a couple of guys who were able to work through the system and regain their gun rights.

I also have a friend that had his rights granted back- He had been convicted of a financial crime in the early 90s. He said it cost him almost $15k - I have no idea if it was correct but for anywhere near that price I would be using one of these new air rifles- and or black powder.

I wouldn’t spend a red cent on trying to restore my rights. I’d become engrossed in proficiency of the weapons I could legally use and call it a day.

You don't have to spend a bunch of money, you get the forms online, fill them out, get required documents and mail it in.

The 5 year rule after serving his time allows him to hunt and protect his residence. Speak with the DA in the county he was convicted and ask the steps for an expungement. Wont cost anything other than a filing fee. Been down this road with the same circumstances. If assault is not aggravated, he has a chance

In this current climate, where the bad guys get all the breaks, be sure the DA you contact for expungement is a Democrat.

And if he’s black its a plus. For the record I’m all for 2nd amendment rights for most anyone that has paid their debt.

+1... I coach with a guy who had a felony in college. He had it expunged 10-15 years later and hunts with his kids all the time and can pass a criminal background check to be able to coach youth. Never knew it was possible, but he's a real gun nut and big into the Chris Kyle fundraisers and tactical shooting and such. Also don't know how much it cost or if he knows the right people.
