mechanics another question

I bought a 1989 3/4 ton chevy from my land owner about 15 years ago. He had it out to pasture and i just wanted parts off of it for the truck i had at the time. Well the other day i realized that i could probably take the engine out and rebuild it and eventually stick it in my 87 suburban. I have not pulled an engine since about 1988. Is it pretty straight forward?
