That mutation has EVERYTHING to do with line breeding. If you want to see some 300" mutations log onto Applewooddeerfarms.com in Wisconsin and they are setting records left and right. IMHO this line breeding has gotten way out of control and should not be allowed to be practiced. Now if you care to take natural genetics and start breeding for antler size and body size naturally fine, but messing with mother nature is not cool.

I think somebody needs to ease up on the protein lick....... Are they injecting him with it?

I don't think I would allow him to pass on those genes...

This deer is in a breeding pen. Where's the story that goes with it and pic's of previous stages of growth. With this type of freak in a pic inquiring minds want to know don't you guys agree ??

Just one more classic example why we should never confuse deer farming with deer hunting.

Sorry, but your wrong. You clearly don't understand the difference between line-breeding and In-breeding. Line breeding occurs in nature all the time and some VERY nice bucks have been produced using this technique. You just have to understand how to do it. Line breeding will bring out the best AND worst traits of deer so you have to be careful breeding with an animal that has a bad trait you don't want to pass on, like short G-1s or G-2s, over bite, etc.. This deer could be the result of lots of different factors, there's just no way to know, but it's not just because of line-breeding.

When good genetic engineering goes bad. I wonder how often this happens and they are just "culled" earlier.
