    Carta Valley Lease

A good friend reached out to me yesterday about a 100ac place that he has available in Carta Valley. No electricity or water and it’s insanely remote, so my question is, would it be worth all of the extra work of having to haul in everything on every trip, and has anthrax been bad in that area recently?

I know there’s a few exotics in the area and tons of pigs, but a 7hr drive and a primitive campsite have me wondering.

    Any input would be appreciated.

100ac in that neck of the woods isn’t a whole lot of land. If the price is right or has regular axis, might be a good deal though, price depending.

I’m too used to having access to at least electricity. Having to run a generator all the time gets exhausting. I can handle packing water in if it came down to it. Some those areas have a large supply of audad. I guess the price would have to be really good to put up with the extra work involved. Roads could be rough on truck suspension too.

Where's the fellas on the Fat G Ranch out that way? Their posts prove that that part of the country is rough on equipment.

The nice thing is that it butts up to a 2200acre place and basically a 3000acre place on two of the 3 sides. But yeah, running a generator is a pain and (from what I’ve been told and can see on Google earth) it’s a rough 5 mile county road to get to the property

Lots of logistics go into hunting that remote.

You crank a generator up on a 100 acre place and you can kiss the deer goodbye

Ha! Carta Valley is Southeast of us and generally flatter than the terrain we hunt. It’ll still be rough depending on the condition of the access to and around the property.

100 acres isn’t much in this country, but the right 100 acres could be money. Water is a big deal. Not for you, but for animals. It’s our most limiting resource. 7 hours in a haul though. It’s definitely worth a trip. I’d drop 2 bales of alfalfa with a cell cam on it to see what comes and make your decision from there.

Exactly what I was thinking. 100 acres in that part of the country aint nothin.

I’m not sure it was ever much of a problem for the guys who hunted it before but I could see it running off some animals from time to time, especially seeing as that’d be the only noise within a couple of miles.

Yep, Small place, you got to creep in and out or the deer will be gone.

Generator noise isn’t going to run much off, lease it one season and see if you like it.

I would not be scared of the generator. The new ones are quiter than trucks/utvs. I run one for my bbq comp trailer and I can't even hear it when I am inside. Super quiet. The issue on this lease for me would be the 7hr drive, no thanks on that unless its so cheap that it makes sense for 1-2 hunts a year there for 3-7 days each.

I like that idea. Might give it some time to find something more in line with what I’m looking for, I think I have until March
