But if he was hunting by himself and hanging there alone how would he get down? I have never seen a good way to climb down if your stand breaks and your up the tree attached to your safety line.

Very True.!!!! Hopefully you will have the strap that you stand up in while you are hanging to relieve the pinching off of the legs.
Eventually, if this happened to me, I believe someone is gonna come looking for me. And I would rather them find me up in the the tree just hanging out rather than on the ground possibly dead

I'll have a HSS vest before season starts this year. I'm using the "free in box" pain in the arse harness now, but I'm good about doing it. I too have gone back to camp to get it, or switch stands if I forget it and hunt on the ground. Too selfish of me to hunt without it, I have a family to consider.

When I was a Project Foreman in construction, we had a safety class on fall restraints and we had to hang in a safety harness for 2 minutes and it was very uncomfortable to say the least. The leg straps pinch the main arterys almost immediatly cut off the blood flow to your legs. I have a GORILLA safety vest and it comes with a emergency knife attached to the vest in its own pocket just in case you do have to cut the strap. But one thing for sure is I would rather hang for an hour or two than to spend the rest of my life in a wheelchair, or dead.

If you attach the tether properly to the tree you will never fall below the seat of your tree stand. You also have to remember the rails or screw in steps are still attached. You can use them to get recover.

I almost never wore one until one of my best friends who wore his every single time for 3 years, forgot it in the truck. Decided once wouldn't hurt. He had over 100 pieces of bone broken in his face and doctors said it was like a tiny jigsaw puzzle.
His face landed on his bow. Don't know how long he was knocked out but he got up thinking " oh my god what have I done to my family?. Walked out on his own.
When you have to go in and retrieve the equipment from an friend (also cousin) it really hits home. He has had 4 different surgeries and has pretty much recovered.
WEAR YOUR SAFETY BELT! At least you have a chance to figure out how you can get down if it's needed.

If you ever fall with a harness on, get a new one. If your harness is a couple of years old, get a new one. The price of a new harness is a lot cheaper than your life...

thanks for a great reminder. if my feet leave the ground I wear a harness every time. without fail. without exception. think about it: if you fall out of a tree you might land to close to your trophy buck or bear to be able to draw and put a pin on him! wouldn't that be tragic!?
seriously, I owe my wife and daughters a harness every time. just think of this: how many people have ever regretted WEARING one? that's right - NO ONE!
