Haven't had much interest in salt water the last couple years, but a few of us got invited for a few days at a cabin in the land cut in early June. I've heard about it all my life, but never been. Supposed to be good fishing that time of year with some sort of shrimp run...IDK but I'm looking forward to it.

Efff those gators. I do a ton of solo wading in the back lakes and have come up on a few. We always give each other space but I'm always leary there will be a 13 footer back there thinking I'm lunch. I've had 5 to 7 footers slide around me but that's about as big as I've seen. I know there's bigger

What's fun is when you're knee-deep on a full moon midnight wade, alone in August, and you hear the deep grunting of a territorial male. I thought it was a big drum or something until the lightbulb went off.

I absolutely LOVE wading at night, and fishing at night in general. Everybody else is back at their AirBnB in POC and I have the entire bay system to myself, at least until the last 5-6 years or so it seems the flounder boats have gotten really popular but they don't really compete for the same spots and they always have their lights on so *probably* won't run me over. I especially like the full or mostly full moon wades where it peaks right around midnight. I've got three Snook now on conditions just like that.

I have never waded at night. It is on my to do list. Sounds awesome except for the gators.

We used to have access to a reservoir south of Winnie that was chock full of good bass, but it was so full of aquatic weeds that scum frogs and grass rats were about the only usable baits. We would wade it, but the only thing it had more of than bass were gators. 12 yo me was scared ****less. Those gators would chase the scum frogs or grass rats pretty dang hard.

3 Snook while wading out of POC?

I’ve never caught a snook out of POC in all the years I’ve wade fished there, did catch 2 snook out of Port Mansfield back to back.

Only night “fishin” I’ve done out of POC has been off the jetties in green lights at my buddies cabin or gigging. May try some tight lining for reds at night this summer, pending the bugs!

Yep, West Matty not Espiritu. We used to night wade all the time around Espiritu and the old army base when we camped there, best fishing ever. Boats are gone and fish are hungry.

Your buddy's cabin Bryant and Joe Brown's place by chance? Only other one on the rocks is their neighbor DJ but they've only been there a couple years.

I’m not familiar with those names. It’s the most north Cabin on the east side jetty

That'd be DJ's place, they got a bunch of partners and I don't know them all. I hang out a lot at the place next door, they just built a new clubhouse that's absolutely freaking amazing. Those are the only two places on that little jetty point. The kids catch sharks and bull reds there constantly while I laugh at their sore arms while double fisting beers. lol.

I’ve met the neighbors a few times while hanging out, last time I just beached my boat on that dove when a storm rolled in and I was outside the jetties and just told them we were getting out of the storm and waiting for it to pass. They were like “cool, wanna beer!?”

I was blessed to have a cabin to fish around the land cut all my early life. It flat out spoiled and ruined me as a fisherman. Hope you guys get into them

Yeah they're all good people. I know most of the partners that come down frequently, there's one or two that rarely come down that I haven't met yet. Their old cabin got washed into the channel and bobbed like a cork for a couple weeks, they drug it out and propped it up on cribbing to use while they built the new clubhouse. That old cabin is now mine, we drug it 3/4 mile down the bay, took 7 hours just to drag it. Over the next couple months it was propped up on cribbing while I worked to get poles under it jetted in for the foundation. I've rebuilt a ton of that thing and replaced lots of rotted out stuff and finally have a nice deck built around it.

If I ever meet you in person I'll relay a funny story about DJ's place on one stormy night we showed up around 2am in the old barge I built.

Sounds good to me. I’m down there most weekends in the summers, usually in my all white 21’ shallow sport with a blue canvas t top. Has a TBH sticker on console, in town in usually beeboping around in an older tan suburban with grille guard. I’ll be fishing & gigging this weekend for my 36th
