    Cactus buck

We have seen a few of these over the last few years and finally got one. My godson shot this one a few days ago. We have another one very similar to this guy/gal. I assume the does carry the genes since these can’t reproduce.

Also not a big fan of our local game after he stopped by and spent several minutes analyzing if the deer was legal(antler restriction county)…ridiculous.

It’s a stag. Not caused by genetics. It’s caused by a lichen they ingest that chemically castrates them.

I wasn’t aware…we have been on the lease over 30 years and have had 3 of these just in the last 3 years.

At least it looks like the deer is shooting two middle fingers

That’s fascinating. Thanks to y’all for the input. Anybody have any more papers/research on the phenomenon?

How did he classify it? At least one 'unbranched antler'?
Legal (in his mind), I assume?

I should clarify that the warden is a good guy but I think he was literally confused and even said he had never seen one before. He first looked at a few other f the bumps and seemed to be analyzing if any were an inch and then after a few minutes be said something about none of the points protruding through the skin so it didn’t matter(which to me he was saying antlerless)…it obviously was through the skin but just covered in velvet.
