    2023 Turkey Hunting

    Afternooon GS.

I bow hunt a "DIY" ranch in Castroville every year and this year I plan to book a bow turkey hunt. We don't have turkey where I hunt (can't hunt them in my county either way)

What is the best time of the season to go? the first and last weekend in April are booked, but I wanted some other opinions on when I should book.

Also, there will be a couple spots open if anyone is interested.

    Friday afternoon-Sunday morning

    $750 shotgun- 1 Tom
    $450 Bow- 1 Tom, 2 hogs

I prefer to hunt them as soon as it opens. So I would book the first available dates

It's hard to tell. Sometimes they are strutting full force the first weekend. Most times not. I think if it is at a day hunt place it would be best to book early though. Get out there before they get educated.

On our place, Camp Wood, they respond better late in the season, but, as others have stated, they are moody, and it really depends.

I go earlier like mentioned above, especially on a day hunt place.

One of my turkey hunting spots is a little further west of there. I've killed a pile of birds out there, but wouldn't bother hunting out there the last 2-3 weeks of season, especially if its a hot, dry spring. The birds on the property I hunt seem to get going early and get done early, relative to season dates. It's not uncommon for me not to see, hear, or get TC pics of any birds later in the season.

Opening weekend has been great for me the last three years in a row.
