    Capsule feeder question

I know some of you guys don't like the capsule feeder but it works for my 88yr old dad. My question is, its not throwing much corn. Timer set on 20 seconds. There's no dust or gunk on the bottom. It almost seems like the auger is to skinny for the pvc pipe inside. Did anyone else have this problem? Or how to remedy this? I don't need the "chunk it" responses, lol. The set up is real easy for my dad, it just needs to sling more corn. What do yall think?

You might want to check the auger. We got two of those feeders for free from a guy who was going to trash them because they weren't throwing well. All it took was replacing the augers which had been chewed by rats so corn was not traveling up them efficiently. (he had left the covers off when they were in storage) They have been running fine for over a year now. Another thing - when you hit the test button it only throws for about 10 seconds no matter how you have the timer set.

Sometimes u need to cut the pvc pipe the auger is in a little shorter. I did that to 2 of mine and it helps. Capsule used to have that tip on their web page.

Check to make sure the auger isn't slipping on the drive shaft. Would make it lift less corn than designed.

Auger worn out. I'm thinking I remember them having an issue with the wrong size auger/pvc pipe that left a little gap that could trap corn and cause chipping/wear on the auger over time.

Chunk it. Lol. Sorry. I fight mine every dang year. So unreliable. Too many moving parts.
I’m got mine so patched up now it’s crazy. But it still slings corn.
Can you hear the corn trying to move up the auger?
I’ve also had trouble with the plate being too close to the pipe.

I'm in the chunk it crowd. ASF stand and fill just as easy to fill and a helluva lot better unit.

Trim the pvc pipe, it’s a must on the capsule feeders

This might be a seriously dumb question, but how did you get to that pvc pipe to cut it? Did you have to take the capsule off the tire or was there another way to get down in there?

Everything comes out of the top. Unscrew the cage etc.. You don't take it out of the tire.

The pvc tube seems to be in there tight, like its not supposed to pull outta the top. We didn't try to pull it out for fear of it not going back in as secure.
The guy at capsule feeder said it sounded like we needed a new auger. Auger probably 6-7 yrs old. Does that sound right, or just trying to sell us a new auger?

That's all it took to fix ours. The old one looked like it had been chewed on, or may had just deteriorated. If there are significant chips out of it anywhere along it's length it won't move corn efficiently
