    Hill Country Deer Movement

How has everyone else's deer movement been for the past 2-3 weeks?

Mine has gone to almost non-existent during the days with a few deer here and there at night. I don't think the deer are getting shot because every once in awhile I will get a random picture of the nice bucks I am familiar with.

The corn is literally piled up under my feeders and they are not touching the protein. It all started with that warm weather pattern we had but it has not improved much.

in the lines of oaks, see tons moving through. during the last couple of weeks feeder activity has been scarce but seeing them moving through the creek, oats, oaks and fresh wintergrass/weeds.

In the meantime piggies have moved in.

Our lease is in Llano county and the deer popilation is way down from drought years back to back and the freeze a few years ago. Might be looking for a new lease here soon

I am in the Oatmeal area and have had the same results as the OP. With the cold front, I think they will have no choice but to hit the feeders for the extra calories.

We have land south of Llano and I have seen very few mature deer and far fewer deer overall. The drought and freezes seem to have really reduced our numbers. They are eating the corn but most are very young.

I’m seeing really low numbers in Gillespie County. I think acorns and drought are the reasons

Same at our Gilliespie Co. Lease really low numbers but that’s because of the acorn crop. At our place in Menard Co. we saw low numbers earlier in the season with how Green it was due to the late Summer rains.

Im in McCulloch* County as well and its been tough. Our numbers at the feeders are down. We have had a couple good 8s shot but other then that its been tough. Seeing 5-10 deer a hunt which is down from 25-30 a hunt just 2 years ago.

Llano, Texas America. Lots of deer. Still hammering feeders even though we have loads of acorns. Fawn survival from last year is way down.

In Blanco Co., knocking on Llano's door... seen 11 does and exactly 1 fawn. Brutal year for fawn survival.

I’m in NE Edwards and I’m only seeing a deer or two on camera at night. Very few hogs too. The elk are making a good comeback though. I had 3 mommas under a feeder with a kiddo each and they appeared about the same age/size too. Maybe this cold front will change things around.

I’m in McCulloch. Movement this whole season has been abysmal. I’ve hunted every weekend of season except one, and it took me 13 hunts to even SEE a doe. I bet 90% of my hunts this season have been nothing but elementary school bucks.

We have protein feeders and cottonseed hoops that we haven’t filled since July that are still holding feed. Some protein feeders still have a couple hundred pounds of protein in them.

Having said all that……CS consumption has gone way up in the last couple weeks compared to the last few months. We have a few mature bucks consistently eating protein at night right now. We have more does, doe fawns, and nubbins being seen in person and on camera now than we have in the last 3 months combined. Recruitment doesn’t look as bad as it seemed to be in October. Things seem to be turning around some. Still missing a number of mature bucks though.

Was lucky and tagged out this last weekend, so I can put a bow on this season and be done. Glad to have it in the rearview mirror. Hopefully next year gets back to normal. Come on rain!
