We got my wife’s Sambar stag back from the taxi this week. Got it hung up in the shop tonight temporarily. She shot it in February. Field dressed 440lbs.

Were you guys in New Zealand? I tried for one there with zero luck with my bow. Very niiiiiiiice! They can get up to 600 pounds under the right conditions but 350 to 400 tends to be the norm. Luv it!!!!!Comment

Thanks for leading me to this thread from the other. Good looking stag and huge. Mine was 334 field dressed and the heaviest shot this week from same place. It was massive in my eyes and yours had 100lbs on it. That’s wild.Comment

It actually is. The folks at the refuge did it was good but not great. It was better than they made it sound. Wife and I both shot stags. Probably the equivalent meat wise to 5-6 whitetail. We gave some to family but processes a bunch too. We did straight ground burger, sausage and steaks. The burger tasted more like beef than WT or axis. Steaks have a unique taste but don’t really taste like deer to me. More like grass fed beef.Originally posted by asu-indian View PostComment
