Agreed, but SOMEHOW (some of) their offspring got us to where we are now.

My Father in law joined the Navy after the attack on Pearl.
Became a Navy Pilot, he flew the Grumman TBM3 from the USS Intrepid. He had 10 children, i married his youngest 32 years ago.. Im still in awe of his accomplishments and sacrifices for America.
He passed not quite 4 years ago. I miss him.

My dad fought in WW2 and died on December 7, 2000 at 81 years of age.

(My oldest brother's birthday is on Nov. 22, the day that Kennedy was assassinated.
My wedding anniversary is April 15th - income tax day. These dates are irrelevant for this thread but have saved my rear a few times. Lol.)

Yes, a day that will live in infamy.
Thank God for all who served in our armed forces.

I guess we've about lost all the veterans there that day. If they were 18 at the time they would be 100 or so. I used to work with a guy who was there as a 12 year old - his dad was a civilian contractor. They lived on a hill above the harbor and he would tell the story of standing in the yard that morning watching the battle and the zeros flying over him at treetop level after their bombing runs. He has a distinct memory of a Jap pilot smiling and waving at him as he passed by. That would stick with you....

I’m currently watching “Marines in the Pacific”, a series on TUBI that starts at Pearl Harbor and basically deals with the complete Pacific campaign against Japan. Very interesting and compelling.

We built and mostly operated 148 aircraft carriers in less than 4 years...

I'm definitely one of those people that thoroughly enjoy small, sometimes deemed useless, pieces of information. I did not know this history nugget so thank you for sharing!

Never forget. I make sure to tell every young person I can about it and I'm only 36.

My wife's grandfather enlisted in the Navy after Pearl Harbor at 16 I think? Several of them lied about their age back then to fight. He was on the Fanshaw Bay. When he finally would talk about it I could listen to those stories all day. My grandfather was a medic on a destroyer in the Army then. A different breed of folks for sure. My grandfather was like a super hero to me as a kid.

There was an article in yesterday's Eagle (Bryan College Station) about Lou Conter who survived the attack on the Arizona. He is one of two remaining survivors. The other is Ken Potts. Over 1,100 souls were lost on that ship alone and over 900 are still on board. Talk about chilling. Article Link

Here's 50 photos, too, from when there was not discretion on what to show.

We were watching the local news this morning here at work like we do every morning. They never mentioned anything about it, so I made sure everyone I work with knows what day it is.
