Full chokes and steel being a no no is a bit dated as a hard and fast rule. Some barrels now are proofed to higher pressures and specifically state they can be used with full+Steel. Fabarm is one of them.

I don’t like fulls for steel. For decoying ducks I’ll take 5/6 shot with an improved modified. For passing or flaring 2/3 blend with same choke. I shoot an extended and ported briley and have had good luck. Not sure the porting does much but whatever ha.

True on the full choke now. Another thing I saw in my guns shooting 100's of patterns was the smaller the shot the more it patterned like lead. Bigger steel almost always needed less choke & when you got down to #4 etc if you wanted tight patterns you had to go IM or full. For most shooters IC to LM is plenty. If you never shoot far & have issues hitting close birds go to skeet choke. I did that with my wife's gun & her hitting percentage improved alot.

Carlsons Mod steel in my 12 gauge

              And IM in my 28!

12 ga 3” #3 experts are the shootingest thing around! pick up a case every season.

Now I’m shooting my 28ga on fresh water with #4’s and doing about as well as with my 12 but I’m taking closer shots and a lot more patient than I used to be…. Old age I tell ya!

Cylinder does well for me with #4. 30-40 yards is typical shot

For close in over decoys you can kill them with any choke. For longer range you need to pattern your gun to know for sure what is best. Tighter isn't always better with steel. I shoot a light mod with #2 or #3. After years of shooting a mod, I figured out it's easier to hit close birds with the slightly more open choke and I don't sacrifice much of anything at the edge of range.

Put a bull drake spoonie at 50 and DUKFVR will show you the difference between being a sky buster and being a heck of a shot!

I think Mod choke is stuck in my gun lol. Its all i use for everything. Spend the money on better shells by something from Hevi shot or Tungsten youll be amazed how much easier you kill birds. BOSS is great but have to order in.

I've got an improve choke in my semi auto now. Sounds like I'll use that with the #3 shells I found. That's all academy had in 3 inch.
3" #3's were my go to back when I did a lot of duck hunting

add a band for his Holy Grail and 100 yards would be a chipshot...

Completely understandable! I'll break out the 22 at 100 yards for a banded full plumage drake spoonie lol.
