    Rwc's 2022 November Recap

Opening weekend of general season started off with another couple does and hogs off the Christoval lease grounds. The old bow was shooting well and hitting were I was aiming. Just needed a hammer toad to walk out! Sorry, no pics of the opening weekend doe and hog.

Ashton did have a little excitement, Cork Screw made an appearance while she was on stand but after her arrow clipped the edge of the blind window and went astray, he was gone and has yet to be seen again………oops.

Returned home without any bone and on a mission. The mission was hogs; I mean allot of hogs! They had moved in on Brecks house pasture stand and I was on a mission to bring some lightening down on them. Pics below:

Week of November 7th – 11th had me in Brecks Elm tree behind the house each afternoon after work with high hopes of thinning out, or at least scaring off some hogs. Have I mentioned each man needs humbling every once in a while………? I am tired of being on the receiving end! As of the ending of this week, I have killed 6 or 7 animals and starting to see a gain in freezer meat…that’s a good thing!

    More to come shortly.

Friday Nov. 11th rolls around and Breck has his first round playoff game. He did very well and Crawford made short work of Kerens. My thoughts turned positive as colder weather quickly approached. But as things happen, I received a phone call informing me that my Mom had been hospitalized. So the bride and I woke early the 12th and drove to Beaumont to check on and visit with my Mom and Dad. Thanks and she is doing much better.

On our way home from Beaumont, I received two text and each were of really good bucks that had been killed that evening. One buck was killed by my son-n-law off my river grounds (1st Pope n Young) and the other one was killed by one of my closes friends that is on the Christoval lease grounds with me. Things are heating up.

Moving on to the week of Nov. 14th thru the 18th. Cooler temps have moved in and northern winds are pretty steady. Loaded my truck with my hunting stuff and planned to hunt every afternoon after work on my river grounds, and I did………….A “few” deer sightings but that was about it.

The week of Nov. 21 thru 27, sightings were starting to increase and weather looked good. I was on vacation for the next 7 days and spirits were high. Started my vacation with a big Crawford win over Coleman, then out west I went. My lease hunt started out good with a doe kill and a cull 4-point kill. Pics Below:

Did video a few great 4/5 year olds before heading back home to cook for the Wednesday night playoff football team meal.

    More action and killing coming!

Had a great Thanksgiving meal with the family and then eased up on my river grounds to end out my vacation. I did mix in the Friday night playoff game, which Crawford won, moving on baby…..

Was very fortunate to have a good steady north wind and got to spend many hours in my favorite North Bosque River Elm tree. My days run together, but one of my sits had a mature buck grazing the food plot and would have shot him, but there was another very nice tall buck in the river and needed to get a better look. But as it happens, by time I get a good look at the tall rack buck in the river, the other buck was gone.

Sunday morning Nov. 27th started out with allot of movement, around 8:15 I noticed tines moving through the saw briars. Once I get a good visual, I start my video recorder then grab my bow. Only thing is he had his mind on other things, like the slick headed four legged things. I climbed down around 10:00 a.m. and made a mad dash back home to help get Christmas decorations down, then back to the river I went.

Finally, a Shooter! The evening hunt started out promising, was in the tree maybe 15 minutes and a really good tall tight 8 with a character point off his main beam eased out into the plot, followed by a couple 2 year olds. As I watched them pick at the chickorys, oats and clovers I hear a grunt and before I could really get turned and find the culprit, a doe flew by followed by a nice mature 9 point. But as fast as they appeared, they were gone. I went ahead grabbed my bow and turned on the recorder just in case. Well, I made the right “in case” move, because as I look up again here they come. I hit the record button, latch on my release and get ready. The next 10 seconds went by in a blur and a bloody arrow was stuck in the ground between me and the river bank.

I wheel around to see the buck galloping off to my south. He stops in the lower food plot and I start to second guess my shot. He then turns east and starts bounding off. I look back to turn my video towards the direction he was running while grabbing my binoculars. But once I get the video on him he is struggling to stay afloat. As I get the video in focus and zoomed in, he is falling to the ground. Thank the Lord. Pics Below:

Please stay tuned, December is shaping up to be a good one.

Have a Great one and God Bless
