Based on that side antler being broke off, I'd wager pretty high it was a puncture wound from a fight that caused an abscess that ruptured.

I’m more opt to believe he was hit by a vehicle that caused the wound and broke off his antlers. No way of knowing what actually happened. He will probably survive though.

Obviously a bite from a black panther. Seen it many times in east Texas.

I would not rule out being shot. I have seen a ballistic tip do that several times to deer.

Being that his antler is broken on that side also I would almost bet money on it! No matter what happened , deer are tough summaguns.

My money is on bad neckshot. I had to make a mercy kill several years ago for the same thing. I heard the neighbor shoot and 3 or 4 minutes there he was. Would have been a slow death.
