    Strategy Changes?

Dear Brain Trust on the GS,

This seasons been tough for some of us folks so for those of you, like me, still with a buck tag or tags in your pocket, how have you adapted or changed your hunting strategies thus far? Or let us know what strategy paid off for you. Can be this year or past hunts and include as many details as possible - weather, time of year, etc.

For me, I'm hunting East Texas where the acorns have been plentiful and the big bucks have been MIA. I recently moved away from corn and areas that historically produce but have not so far. I busted out the hang and hunt setup, and found some chinkapin oaks that were dropping heavy and a heavily used trail.

Let us know where you're hunting (general area), and if and how you've changed setups and strategies.

    North Cherokee County
    Killed my buck 10-19-22
For first time ever I placed two wicks with golden doe estrus out on my first setup
Had two bucks come from downwind within 24 hours two weeks prior to my kill (could be coincidence)
Two weeks later buck shows up on my rifle setup not far away at 10:25am on 10/19. I decided to hang a stand at 1pm at my rifle setup
I have a feeder at that setup but he didn’t even stop to eat
I poured buck bourbon (powder grain mix) on the ground when I hung the stand at 1pm
Hunted that evening & at 6:10 he pops out & nose to the ground walked right to that buck bourbon & I drilled him at 25 yards. Rough scored 122-1/2 8 point with nearly 10” G2s

I will say I beat the acorns before they dropped so that helped
Still got bucks coming through but non-shooters. A decent 8 & big 4 maybe 5 point with a nub of a brow tine

Your luck should change late season when acorns deplete & bucks go back to feeding post rut

For now, look for heavy trails among the acorn crops & setup there

    Good luck

I changed mine. Yesterday was only my third sit for the year. I wanted until it was cold and misty before going hunting. Seen bucks all 3 hunts but with the drought the Bucks have lost lots of inches this year. I need these Bucks to stay alive another year and I need to stay alive another year.
