Opening weekend I took a buck to Fowler's which is the "new" processor across the street from the Muy Grande headquarters. It was on Sunday and Freer Deer Camp is closed on Sundays.
Fowler's is a family run business and they were pleasant and helpful when I dropped off my deer for processing. I paid a deposit with a credit card. They don't have a web presence so I snagged a couple of business cards from them. Here is their info.
Fowler's
206 E. Riley St.
(361) 389-9184 or (361) 389-2044
Last season I took a doe to Freer Deer Camp to be processed. The deposit was $100 and they don't take credit cards so I had to drive to the corner store to pull cash. No big deal. The vibe in the shop isn't unfriendly but I wouldn't categorize it as friendly, either. The owner's personality may not mesh well with some. Then again I'm sure there are plenty of folks who may not agree with me. Overall, the processing was about a 6 or 7 on a scale of 10. Over the years I've had several processors have no problems fulfilling my request to convert hindquarters into roasts that will fit into a crock pot. They simply separate them out by the muscle. Here, the chopped up the hindquarters instead.
For me the verdict is still out on Fowler processing work as my deer isn't ready yet.
ETA obligatory buck pic.
