Looks like a ten pounder if I've ever seen one. lol. Great buck for the kiddo and great memory I'm sure. Heck, I'm not sure he would have gotten past me. Congrats to all!
Definitely an evening to remember. Watched this deer in the morning hunt but couldn’t get a shot. He was moving through the brush and in full rut. Actually was seen on the opposite side of pasture an hour later yesterday morning. So evening hunt we settled in. Not much activity. Then at 5:30 he’s coming straight at us at 150 yards. Cuts in the brush to our left. So we set up that direction. Nothing for 20 minutes. Solid glassing trying to spot him. Then, Catch some movement in the brush, tell Walt get on the gun in case he steps out. And he does. Ranged him at 125. But now he starts walking towards us. Oh yes. Even better. Walt still on the gun. Told him let him get broadside and put it on his shoulder.
Closed the gap, stopped, got broadside. I flip the safety off, give the thumbs up and pat on the head. Then BOOM.!! Dropped him. Stayed on him till he quit kicking. Some High fives, hugs and maybe a tear or 2 from this old man. We were freakin pumped. Kid has ice water in his veins.
Have 3 more grandkids to hopefully share this experience with. And I’m ok with just having a sharp knife ready. I can see his namesake great grandfather smiling ear to ear, saying Good job Bubba.!!
