Man what an opening weekend. Great time with great friends out in the woods enjoying what the Good lord gave us.
Started bow hunting about 5 years ago before my kids were really old enough to be out with me. When my daughter turned 8, she really wanted to go so had to put the bow down and hunt with the rifle for the last 3 years or so.
Have let an arrow fly 3-4 times at a doe, missing each time, and stuck a big mule deer but never recovered him, only to see him on cam 4 weeks later with a hole in his front shoulder. (had to have hit bone).
But Saturday morning, finally got it done. Doe came out near quitting time and eventually came in the right direction. Drew back when she was behind some trees, and took her like 3 mins to step out. Gave her a little grunt to turn her, worked perfectly and let the arrow flow. She was quartered away a little so entry came in a little high and back with her drop, but ended up tagging a lung and found her about 75 yards away.
Pretty fired up and felt really good to get it done finally. I never want to pick up a rile again but my boy now is obsessed so will still have to mix it up a little. He will def be staying back in the cabin at least one hunt during the rut to let me get out and try for a big boy!
Just so grateful and what a fun experience. Freezer is full and time to keep up the practice to make an even better shot next time.
Cheers!!
