I forgot about T Bar 7 Kennels in Arlington, Tx. He is a member here but I can't remember his name but the kennel is on FB and he has some good dogs.

We have an 8yr old Draht & she is a great family member & every bit as caring / loving as the labs & vizslas we've owned.

May not apply to you as ours are indoor dogs...cons: shedding is horrible. They will drink & make wet messy trail on their way to you & put that wet beard on your lap. Much worse dog smell comes on fast post bath vs the Viz.

They are arguably a more versatile breed, but we have become vizsla lovers & are possibly looking at another in 2023.

        Good luck.

X2 on the affection, before we got ours we had a lab, and she was no where near as affectionate as our Draht, while inside, dude constantly has to be touching us or loving on us. Ours, doesn't seem to shed as bad as our lab did but his hair is much shorter than the usual Drahts and it kind of blends into our floors where he does.

1st off...Semper Fi from on old 1st LAI, then 1st Recon Marine. We have 2 wire hair pointing griffons. Similar breed, if you want a versatile dog may be another to consider. Point, retrieve, track, great family dog

                Mavis.

She will hunt anything you ask her to. Owned a bunch of breeds and of them her nose has impressed me the most. Got her from a hunting family in marble falls.

Are they any calmer than shorthair pointers?

Many people jump in with GSP and don’t realize what they are in for. My GSP has finally slowed down a little now that he is 11 years old. But not many breeds come close to keeping up with the energy. Amazing mannered and disposition.

Yeti is 7 now and by far the best dog I've ever owned. He can run all out for miles at a time. I've had him cover 20 miles in the Texas Hill Country over a day filling feeders. He is wide open until it's time to go in. He is the protector of my wife and kids while I'm away. He is a lover and loves to be loved on, but if you act aggressive around my kids, he is having none of it.

I could go on for days... He is a best friend and companion to my whole family. Can't go wrong with a wirehair. Just be ready for all the energy the first 6 months

This man lies…..I have one of Yeti’s offspring. She is as described above but she’s 1 yr old now and she hasn’t slowed down yet! [emoji1787]

The natural instinct and drive our girl has is incredible.

I am on my 3rd Deutsch Drahthaar. If you don't know a German wired hair breeder, I would go with a DD. The DD program ensures there aren't puppy mills.
