Note to self - bring extra bowstring

Never in my years of shooting trad have I had a bowstring break so somewhere along the way I started neglecting to bring an extra string. I am at the lease and decided to fling a few arrows between football games. “THWAANG! *** was that? “ Fortunately the bow seems OK. I guess I’ll be rifle hunting pigs this evening

That could’ve been a total train wreck.

Glad you didn't get hurt when that happened. Good reminder to all of us to double check that that extra string is in your emergency kit. I got caught once without it, and it was a 13-hour round trip to where the extra string was .

I been bringing a backup bow when I go on a hunt other than my lease. And I was thinking about stopping this because nothing EVER happens. Think I will keep on taken one along.

Portable bow press a guy always brings on a bow hunt came in extremely handy one day. My string came off on the 1st day of a 4 day hunt.

Yep John, with my trad gear, I always kept at least 2 strings already shot in and waxed good and stored in a zip loc bag with the loops tied together with a twist tie... Never had to make a quick change but once, but it was day 2 of a 5 day elk hunt in Colorado... Killed my first elk with a bow the very next day... Now that I use mostly wheelie bows, when I head to the lease (6+ hours away from home), I just take two bows set up the same... When target practicing at home, I shoot 'em both some so I know they're both ready to go... Sometimes a PITA, but man we spend a lot of money on property, corn, protein, and other gear... Ain't no way I'm letting my bow keep me from being able to hunt!!
