    Car dealer Appraisal needed

I bought a old limo couple months ago and getting around to getting title transferred. My tax office couldn't get an appraisal from their system and won't accept the bill of sale from the lady I bought it from as value. Would someone do an appraisal for me for the amount I gave for it? Tax office told me that I also have to pay at least $100 for this appraisal, which seems ignorant to me. TIA

Try a title company, not for appraisal, but for the actual transfer.

what is the original vehicle titled as?

does it show customization change on the title?

example: if it just shows 2010 Ford Excursion, don't tell them any different. just have them look of the value in there book and use it. don't ask any questions. pretend it was the original vehicle

I just bought an f150 from my wife's work. Paid the amount that the dealership was going to give on trade. Truck has few issues so it was understandable that what we paid was low. Tax office says doesn't matter what issues it has or how much you actually paid for it, you owe the tax value on whatever their book says. Screwed up system we have.

They either go off of presumptive value or value paid for which ever is highest.

Type your vin and mileage below and see what the vehicle pops up as. Then register it exactly like it pops up as. I would go to a different tax office if she wont.

This started 10 years or so back. They tell you what the vehicle is worth...

Wait to they add it as personal property to your tax bill and I bet they have an appraisal amount.

Its a limo, which was built by Cadillac as an incomplete vehicle. This is why they can't find the value. I paid $800 for the car. They want me to spend $100 on apprasial and KBB showed $750-1500 value for just a car.

Any car dealer can appraise the car but by law you have to pay $100-$300 for them the fill out the paper for the appraisal. If you have a buddy in the business then maybe he won't charge you.

That's what I was hoping for on here. I don't know anyone that's a car dealer.

It just doesn't make sense to me that they can force you to get an appraisal when all these other cars that go through every day don't require an appraisal. If you can find it on KBB, Edmunds, or NADA, then you should be treated the same as anyone else. Can you call a limo company and have them help you value it for free?

What about going to CarMax and getting a written offer to buy it from you?

I doubt they would give an offer for an old limo
