Chew, as selfless and dedicated as you have been your entire adult life in helping other people, it's about time you got some "payback"!! Good for you and Ms. Mary. Some may think it's silly, but I think it is absolutely a "God" thing that He brought you the right person. My prayer is that He will continue to bless you and your bride throughout this whole process! Many folks have said over the years, if your marriage can survive building a house together, you can survive ANYTHING!!
Sounds like y'all have a great plan!

We built on a hill with a high grade like that. To save you some money you can excavate off the proposed site to reduce the slope, build a retaining wall with drainage at the back and use the excavated dirt to build up the front. If your dirt is good fill.

Our pad was cut out of the side of a hill. Our excavation contractor had about 40 hours in the job. He cut two terraces above the house to divert runoff and then a final swale with about 13-14 inches of fall at the bottom of the hill behind the house. We did not have to import or export and material. The cut material went into the driveway base and slopes on the pad. It cost $7400.00.
