    Help (fishing) from the GS

My Dad passed away a couple of years ago and I’m just now going threw his fishing gear. I wanna save the best stuff for my son and donate, trash the rest. This is the beginning of the Rod/reels.
What should I be looking for to save? What’s worth getting fixed or cleaned up ? Brands ?

All can be good reels if maintained and clean.

Other than being your dad's old stuff really none of it. I would keep the ones that you have the fondest memory of and give the rest away to a beginner

I've got the two that were my dad's and the two that he gave to me when he bought them for us in the early 70's.

They are one of my most cherished possessions and wouldn't trade them for a bucket of money.

Save the Penn spinning reels(black and gold) and the Ambassadors.

It's hard to tell from those pics on the rods but those are some old classic reels. The Abu 5000 is cool. The old Penn SS spinning reels are cool. The little Abumatic 170 is pretty cool and one of the best little spincasters ever made. And the Penn 9 and 209 or whatever those old Penns are are kinda cool too. I probably wouldn't say any of those are on my list of reels I want to fish with now but I don't think if they were my dad's reels I'd let any of them go.

These are my thoughts as well.

But I'll buy some for memories sake if you have too many to keep yourself OP.

Wish I still had my old 209 from 30+ years ago.

I'd just save for memories or decorations with pics of yall fishing together ect. Not really worth anything to other people. Just my 0.02

What Glenn said. Those 2 abu reels are cool. That closed face Abu is better than any zebco made
