So what is the name of this tree?
Location is east Texas.
I looked up different varieties and closest I could find was Chikapin or however you spell it!!
That acorn looks like it is from a nuttal (striped) oak. Most of their acorns, but not all of them, are noticeably striped. The leaves from a chinkapin oak resemble a swamp chestnut oak, which do not match your tree in question.
Looks like a Nuttall acorn, I hardly ever see them here but I have came across a few of them along creeks in East Texas. The acorn is too big to be a chinquapin.
