        I was always taught to live below your means, not above them, no matter how much you make. It has done well for my family and I hope it carries over to my children when they are adults. Basic financial literacy should me a must in all high schools nationwide.

            Complete B.S. I know plenty of people who have done exactly that. 30-40 years of working and investing their in blue chip stocks.

              Speaking as a financial advisor myself, I gotta disagree as well. While it may take lots of discipline, especially if you have to break bad habits. Lot's of people overspend by hundreds each month. That money invested could easily be millions long term. Now if your 55 and just now breaking your habits maybe it won't make you "rich" but still offers a modest reward if spent responsibly.
