    Parking break adjustment

I NEED TO ADJUST MT PARKING BREAK ON A 01 CHEVY 2500. Any one know how to do this?

Can't be done from what I understand Rig. You have to replace these horseshoe shaped shoes inside the rear rotor.

Did it fail inspection for no parking brake?

        quick google Parking_brake_adjustment_on_2001_Chevy_Silverado_2 500hd

Might find better info on a chevy truck forum, too.

I did it on our 2002 burb, a couple yrs ago to get inspected.

is it drums or disc if it is drums sometimes you can pull and hold your parking brake release and pump your parking brake that has worked for me on older trucks may need new brakes though any squeling noise out of the back breaks

could be true... That is a POS park brake system. Does not hold good when everything is perfect. More times than not, People will drive with that park brake on because since it never holds good, You do not realize that it is on. Therfore, many times the brake bands get worn out. (Park brake bands are separate from the rear disc pads)There is an adjustment though.... thru the backing plate is a star adjuster, just like the old days. Good luck

There is probably a star adjuster as mentioned above, if not they "should" auto adjust if you pump the parking brake some. I'm pretty sure on those models your "parking" brake is just a manual connection to apply the rear drum brakes, its not a separate assembly or anything from what I remember. I'd try pumping the parking brake pedal, then I'd check for an adjuster in the drum, and if all else fails just have the rear pads replaced. Two guys can do it in a few hours, its not too horrible.

I did a break job on it less then a year ago so the pads are good.I wiil pull wheels off and look for the adjuster.

I had that happen on my old 2000 Silverado. It's a design flaw. I never used my parking brake, and it still wore out. It's not the actual brake shoes that are bad. There are some small pads on the inside of the brake drum that wear out. The spring isn't stong enough to keep those pads from dragging. Somewhere around 2004 it failed the inspection at the dealership. They told me it would cost ~$700 to repair it. I told them that I would take care of it myself for that price. It's not that hard to do. Just took a couple of hours hours.

It will just be a little cogged wheel that will click one way or another. Usually you can adjust it with a flat head screw driver. Last set I worked on it was at the bottom of the assembly.

                      You can do it!

                      Remove rear disc.

Adjust POS shoes til the disc is snugg when you try to re-install it.

Should take about 4 turns on adjuster hootus.

So there is two sets of break pads on the rear break rotor? One for the parking and one set for the driving break?

There are the disc brakes....and then a set of shoes inside of the disc hub.

The disc brake pads work hydraulically for driving and the inner shoes are manually operated for parking.

Just remove the brake caliper, remove the brake caliper mounting bracket, slide off the disc, and the shoes will be inside.
