    2nd career?

I'm interested in hearing ideas for a 2nd career. I started out as LEO back in the early 90's then went OTR, then settled in at a wire rope company for 20 plus years. Started as a delivery driver, then Manager, inside sale and accounts receivables. Moved to GM at a trailer company they bought. Things in life changed and I had the chance to move to the property I have. So, I'm getting setup on the 250 acres and now working as Juvenile Supervision Officer. Its 12 hour shifts and work 14-15 days per month. I took nights to free up time during daylight to do projects plus I don't sleep much so it works well. I have time to do college and have been thinking about it. I'm interested in the Law Enforcement field and maybe corrections is the best place for an older person vs being in the field. At one time accounting was an interest I had but could not make college work with bills. Kids I had at the time.
I'm interested in hearing ideas from others. I want to hear from others as it's easy to get tunnel vision based on life's experiences. I'm open to trades as well. Machinist is something that appeals as I enjoy fabbing with in my skill set.

I thought about doing this myself. To much competition down here. Maybe something with instrumentation and electrical. I always see job ads for those guys. Refineries, oil field pads and water distribution plants are always looking to fill these positions. I’d contract out and work your own jobs.

Just from your post I assume you're mid +- 40's. A very pivotal time in your life. Depending on asset worth it's hard to say and in this upcoming climate I really don't know. Hopefully someone will chime in with a direction and if it's too your liking hit it hard, learn and be a success. Yeh, I know not much help.

Everybody and their momma did this and thought they could get rich with their skid steer.

ROI on college after 50 is few and far between. I assume you are over 50.

Plenty of hands on jobs around. Start at decent pay and quickly climb up as you prove your worth.

Someone mentioned lawn care. Actually not a bad idea. Morph it into fence repair. Handy man. Etc.

Neighbor across the street gave me a business card for a guy who hangs ceiling fans for cheap. $75 each.

I don't need the money. But I like adding money to my profile. I would have done ceiling fans at $50!!

Aint no way I could recommend getting into LE in a major city right now. Especially of youre 40+. Not because of your age but how you were most likely raised and how most of todays turds act coupled with everybody wants to video you.

Corrections? Never worked TDC but spent time in the jail at a local level. The recruits working them now are only a day away from changing uniforms. The stuff the 'jailers' get caught doing is sickening. I currently work with a handful of guys who worked TDC in the huntsville area and they have the same stories of TDC people 20 years ago
