    Navy jet bird strike footage

You may remember that this time last year a Navy trainer crashed into a neighborhood in Lake Worth and a bird strike was suspected. They have released the cockpit footage that shows a buzzard getting sucked into an engine. Several houses were destroyed and one of the pilots was badly burned but it is a miracle nobody got killed

I remember that day. It could have been so much worse.
Bird strikes are one of the worst. At work we had the chicken cannon that we would fire (pneumatically) at the canopy’s to test what they could handle but there isn’t much you can do about a bird in your inlet.

While nobody will ever accuse me of being the sharpest blade in the chandelier, I have wonder why “they” don’t attach some kind of grate in front of the intake—something that will allow air to pass through but not birds (or at least large birds)? It seems like a fairly simple solution to me.
