Some Kind of Scam or Something I Should Look into

Just got home from work and my wife said there was a message on our answering machine. It stated that we were now summons for this phone number associated with this property. Something to do with a FTA and that we have been notified. Something about under investigation and left this phone number.

Ignore. They’ll send a letter if it matters.

Answering machines are still a thing?

FTA means Faiure to Appear. Typically meaning you failed to appear for some type of required court appearance. Very likely a scam. The person will probably tell you that a judge issued a warrant for your arrest b/c you FTA. The caller will tell you he is a warrant officer/investigator and he is coming to arrest you on said warrant. When you tell him it is a mistake b/c you had no scheduled court appearance, he'll tell you once he gets you booked into jail you will be allowed to see the judge the following day where you can plead your case. When you ask about other options, he will tell you you can pay him your bond amount in lieu of arrest, and he will post the bond with the county/district on your behalf later today. Then you can go to court tomorrow and meet with the judge. He will tell you that if the judge determines that the arrest warrant was issued in error, you can just go to the clerk's office and get the bond amount you posted returned to you.

The above scenario happened to a friend of mine, and the "officer" kept him on the phone until they actually met up. My buddy had already withdrawn $2,000.00 from his bank and was in route to a Kroger store to meet up for the "bond" payment. He texted his wife during the ordeal and told her what was going on. She called me to determine if this was legitimate, since I used to work in the criminaI justice system. I told her it was in no way legitimate, particularly after learning my buddy had not received a ticket, or been charged with any crime. The alleged officer was obviously very good at his con game and refused to allow my friend to get off the phone. He just had to communicate via text messaging. His wife was also convinced it was legitimate even after I tried to reassure her it was not. I gave her the phone # to the local sheriff's office dispatch to verify the validity of the warrant. She called the SO dispatch and they told her the whole scenario was a scam and to tell her husband to not meet the officer and hang up on him. My buddy was about 5 minutes away from the meet up location when he got the text from his wife to hang up and not meet him. My buddy did what his wife told him, and he never heard another word from the officer. My buddy tried calling him back several times to confront him, but nobody ever answered his call.

We still have a land line phone. If work wants to get ahold of me on my days off, they can call this number and leave me a message???
Figure it was some kind of scam. No tickets of any kind and they never used any names.
Now when my wife goggle FTA, it came up Federal Transit Application, so she started worrying because it had to do with the property associated with my phone number.

Tell him you only have cash and you’ll happily meet him at my martial arts school. I’d love to referee or tag team him.
