Going after my first Nilgai in about 6 weeks on the Kenedy Ranch(low fence) near Sarita, Texas. This is my first rodeo with Nilgai and I have read every article and watched any and all videos that I can find looking for tips. Rifle is sighted in and I am confident up to 300 yds. Shot placement is critical, either a head or neck shot is preferred or try to break down the Shoulder joints seems to be recommended. It will be spot and stalk with a Ranch Guide. I know they are tough to bring down. Any advice will be appreciated!

I shot mine from a side profile right under the eye. Aimed for a spot that looked like the cheekbone with a 300 ultra at about 250-300 yds. He fell drt.
However, I was really surprised that the 210 grain bullet didn't cause as much havoc as I would have expected. No bugged eyes, no mushy head, just a pencil hole entrance and no exit. Even their heads are tough.

I have taken 2 bulls and 1 cow off the Kennedy ranch, hunted there for many years. My word of advice is making sure you're packing a good bullet and rifle. These are extremely tough animals with very keen eyesight. I took this bull in the shoulder and he dropped on spot. My others were a quartering heart shot and a lung shot, both of those ran off but not very far. I shoot a .30-.378 Weatherby Mag.
Chiggers are a b**ch down there, definetly use some permerthrin.
One my favorite places to hunt in Texas, I miss that place.
