    English Cocker Spaniel

Well my wifes 14 year old lab was put down last week, so time for a new dog. We already have another lab but want to get something small for the kids to be able to hold and love on a little bit more than they can our labs, and also would prefer something to not shed as much too.

Think we have decided on an english cocker. This wont necessarily be a hunting dog, as I spent a lot to train my lab, but if it happens oh well. Anyone have one or have any tips or pointers? Thanks and would love to see pics

They are great and my wife is happier that I went with English Cocker as you do not have to sweep up as much as with a lab. You never have to look for your dog as they never get that far from you unless doing a job.

Donna with Lazy MD Gundogs has some of the best in the nation and she is great to do business with.

BTW my dog quartered instinctively. You are not that far away from decent woodcock hunting.

Thanks for the info. My kids are getting excited and it wont even be until December before we would get the puppy.

First off I was dead set against this dog. I was wrong “Muzzy” is the most awesome dog I’ve owned. He’s like a jack Russell with an off switch! House broke to ring a bell in about…. 5 minutes. Retrieves anything, and everything. Great with kids and after a year he has not lost a single hair… NONE! It’s incredible

He’s a Cav-a-poo. Cavalier King Charles spaniel and poodle. He’s full grown and about 10 pounds

And I went through a ton of spaniel research. They have breed them to be pretty prone to health issues

We originally had been looking at one of the smaller -poo crosses. But where those dogs save on shedding, they are exponentially worse on needing professionally grooming. Meanwhile I have been told on an English cocker, to brush weekly and only trim ears and feet. But I appreciate it. Will check into this as hadn’t seen one of these before. Where did you get it?

I have an Eng Cocker, she’s a great pet and bird dog. Most natural hunter I’ve ever worked with.

Got from a reputable breeder in Mineola. We have a groomer that comes to the house in a big van every 6-7 weeks. And I promise it’s better than dog hair everywhere

I was a lab guy growing up, told myself I will never get a different breed. Well the group I hunt with runs English Cockers and I immediately fell in love with the breed. My wife also said no big dogs so this was the perfect breed for us. Our Dixie is a great hunting dog and even better family dog. She’s quickly becoming our 1 year old's best friend.

As far as grooming goes, they do require a little work. I groom her myself. Trim her ears, feet, and shave her about every 2-3 months. I prefer her to have short hair then the long hair.
