I run the hammer basically on free choice right now. Was thinking to choke it down to get them more into a morning and evening pattern instead of eat it free choice all night. Anyone have any experience doing this? Does it "work" or should I leave it the way it is?

It works like a charm. Start it out light and increase as needed. I run trough style though not the hammer unit. I feed it all year. I try my best to make it to where if they don’t show up during daylight, they don’t eat during season. Post rut and during the off-season they get more along with cotton seed etc.

I would choke it back, personally, and if they don't show up during daylight, then no free meal. That's my opinion.

Yes it works, choke it down for 30 min or so morning and evening

I would. Seen too many folks run into season with protein out at dusk.

I know when I went to timed protein it was also with the mindset of helping my in season game as well as my off-season… instead of just off-season. It works. They will come in the daylight for it.

My opinion is its easier to get deer to come during daylight hours than is to get hogs & coons not to come at night

I have the 1000#Lamco protein, I will run them daylight only staring in September. The deer seem to adjust just fine. When the dinner bell rings, they show up.

I actually run mine for 1 minute open in the morning and in the afternoon. That equals about 20-25lbs a day. The Axis & Whitetail are there like clockwork. I very seldom have any deer on camera after dark

It works. Been running mine from 6 AM to dark since 2014 or so.

Rest assured that the deer will adjust, IMO. The attached picture shows some of the deer taken from 2012 to 2018 by dialing the feedings back to hunting hours only. We feed 30 minutes to an hour during the morning and again in the evening. I've never had a deer quit coming because I only fed in the daylight. All of the deer were 6 1/2 and older.

This is what I do too with my Lamcos

In the off season it’s a buffet 24-7, but starting this weekend it’s mornings only. The deer learn real fast to show up early if they want to eat.
