    Cow elk call

What brand do you experienced elk hunters prefer? The ones I bought last year sucked in my inexperienced opinion.

I use Bugling Bull diaphram calls. Usually the white or green.

The elk reel is the easiest and best sounding elk call you can buy in my opinion.

Create accurate cow, calf, and bull sounds with Reel Game Calls' Hardwood Elk Reel! Made of high-quality materials, this elk call is incredibly easy to use.

phelps diaphragm's work great.. I just got some of the new born and raised calls, sound great also. I would buy a few different ones to see what you get to work better.

Im far from experienced but used phelps and born and raised diaphragms last year, plus a phelps external cow call. I picked up the phelps ez sukr for this year.

It’s also the lightest sounding from a volume stand point. Some what a pain to use with a tube. But it’s easy to use.

OP quicker you learn a mouth call better off you will be. Especially in a single caller situation. I prefer the orange amp from Phelps and then maverick for older cow and bull

Carlton little heifer is pretty cut and dry bite call, just hard to change pitch up

Find a reed to fit your palate and practice. I bought the 3 pack of elk101 but only one of them fits my palate and style.

I used a mouth call last year as I was solo. It just didnt seem to hold up to the practice leading up to the hunt and then the week of hunting. I tossed it/them when I got back from Montana.

Thanks to everyone for the options, I'll give them a look.

I always have several with me and swap them out every few hours for a less slobbered one. It probably shouldn't make a difference but I do it.

I usually carry three different calls. You will find out which one they prefer. It is usually the elk that tell me which one to use. Where I hunt in Oregon they answer to a primos dome call and maybe Carlton.

Rocky Mountain Voo Doo cow call
It projects further and capable of mimicking cows of various ages.

I use it upside down. Its just feels better for me. I was been able to call up several bulls on my first trip as an extreme novice….with 8 hrs of drive time practice. My experienced elk hunting buddy recommended this call and so I followed his recommendation to help however I could.

Whereas, diaphragms are nice to be hands free but dont seem to throw sound as far or have as much sound variability capability.

Ive never called up a cow.
                          Good luck MrRTP.

I use mostly bite and blow cow calls, Sceery Ace-1, Cowgirl by Primos, Carlton Lonesome Cow, Wapiti Wailer, etc..
All work very well and are easy to learn and use.
Do not keep them in your mouth while just watching, they clog with spit and will not blow, reeds will stick together. Carry 2 for sure.

You should have at least 2 different ones to make different sounding calls, sound like more than one cow or different cows talking.

Spouse uses diaphragm calls and his bugle tube to throw the cow sounds around us.

Phelps gray and black amp external reeds are a good starting point.
