    Fish finder experts

I want to add a fish finder to my boat and want to be able to overlay google earth on the navigation. Is that possible? I don’t know anything about fish finders so looking for guidance.

I’m not an expert but I’m pretty sure you can go with either hummingbird or lowrance gps units and order a navionics platinum plus map card (which has the google overlay). Hopefully someone else will come along and confirm.

I think my garmin has that feature but I'm doing good just to power the unit up.

standard mapping is the best Ive seen (I have navinoics and H-bird mapping). They have maps of lakes prior to flooding but they are 100 bucks each

I am far from any kind of expert, but I recently upgraded to Lowrance HDS and the C-Map Reveal is a game changer for sure!

I had a full suite of Lowrance HDS on my Avalanche when I bought it. If it weren't for that I would have put Birds on it. Had Birds on the previous boat and have used them on other's boats. Birds are way mo user friendly to me and better graphics resolution and cost less generally. I think Hummingbird technology has left Lowrance in the dust. So if I rated the two I would give the Lowrance a 7 and the Bird a 9. There is no such thing as a 10.
As for the others, I haven't a clue since I never been on a boat that had them.

I don't know about overlay but I would say that hummingbird has the best mapping and side image.

You plan on using it in fresh or salt?

I use boat lane chips and Navionics chips in my HDS Carbon. Clay has something else that shows lake contours and it looks like google earth where it's not water. You can get get subscriptions for crap for your graphs and maybe get stuff like that. I know a guy that listened to XM radio and could look at the radar on his graph, but he needed something to do anyhow cause he never caught any fish! I know they make some map cards that are old google views of land etc where stuff used to be before coastal erosion wiped it out. The guide we fished with had it on his graph in Venice to see where land used to be.

I'll disagree on ease of use! My HDS I can watch youtube on my phone while graphing and scroll back on my graph and see if I missed anything and touch the screen and mark a waypoint. A Helix is way more steps to mark a waypoint and you can't scroll back to see what you missed. The Mega SI throws a nice picture but a tuned Lowrance HDS looks sweet too. I've just never got the HB is easier to use part? I don't know how the Lowrance could be easier to use.

Both. The overlay will primarily be used in salt water along to the Texas coast. I normally fish the lower laguna but will fish anywhere along the coast. Going to rockport this weekend.

I fish the coast and run a Texas 1 card from standard mapping. Covers the entire coast from Sabine to Brownsville.

I have to agree with you on that 100%! The image on a properly tuned HDS Live is amazing, and if you have the C-Map Reveal you can put the texture and shading on the maps that make every change in depth just jump off the screen at you!
