Diatomaceous earth -- this has worked wonders around our HQ and Cabin. Pouring gas in the yard is something to avoid. I got 20lbs of DE for $10. Poured on mounds (main entry hole) and away they went. Been two years now and they have not come back.

I leave them alone since we see horned toads occasionally
        Super cool.

This will take care of them, Guarantee !
I hated to kill my 2 mounds, but they were taking 2 lbs of chicken scratch every day. Almost like miniature raccoons.

I haven't run across any insect that Orthene won't kill.

When I was a kid my oldest sister used gas but left a trail of gas to the can. It blew up and the blew the bottom off the can and sent it sailing like a frisbee. She stuck her hand up and it cut her ring finger off. We never found her finger and I can't remember what it did to the ants.

Don't use poison or kill them, put your water hose on the hole and leave on for about 10 minutes. They will move.

Boiling Water. Sprinkle sparingly the Ortho powder. Smells god awful, there gone couple hours.
