And you can walk the river for miles and miles on end
And never stop believin' in that dream around the bend.
Still I get restless and drive into town
I cruise once down Main street and turn back around.
It's crazy but God knows I don't act my age
Like and old desperado who paints the town beige.
    -REK

You got more out of it
    Than I put into it
    Last night
    Who were you thinkin' of
When we were lovin' last night?
    - Texas Tornadoes

When I die let my ashes float down the Green River
Let my soul roll on up to the Rochester dam
I'll be halfway to Heaven with Paradise waitin'
Just five miles away from wherever I am.
    - John Prine

    I'm tired of runnin' 'round
Lookin' for answers to questions that I already know
I could build me a castle of memories
Just to have somewhere to go
Count the days and the nights that it takes
To get back in the saddle again
Feed the pigeons some clay, turn the night into day
And start talkin' again when I know what to say
I'm goin' down to the Greyhound station
Gonna get a ticket to ride
Gonna find that lady with two or three kids
And sit down by her side

Well it's closing time, I'm down to my last dime
You can bet your *** I'm in a world of trouble
If I'd a stuck with beer, I'd been out of here
But the man in the barroom mirror is still drowning doubles
When the hard stuff hits my veins
      I'm a puppet on a string
That old 90 proof just won't let me stop
Drop a needle on that old jukebox
I'll be a fool on a stool, but it ain't my fault
That's what happens, when whiskey calls the shots
When the morning comes, my old lady son
Gonna come undone loud and clear
But it'll happen again 'cause every now and then
My old low down no good friend gets in my ear

        A creature made of sunshine
Her eyes were like the sky
        Rabbit howls like something old
As we twitch to her lullaby
The scalpel shines in god's sunshine
        Street lights whisper pain
Down here near the poison stream
        Our god has gone insane
She smiles like a child with flowers in her hair
With blood on her hands into the sun she stares
She feels it die, I heard her cry
She smiles like a child with flowers in her hair
With blood on her hands into the sun she stares
She feels it die, I heard her cry
Like the scream of the butterfly

Well, I'm up and gone at the break dawn
I've been workin' like a regular dog
To keep my woman and the lights and the water
          And the phone turned on
I've been sayin', "Yes sir" all day at work
I've been sayin', "Yes ma'am" at home
I've been storin' up the cuss words
          Keepin' 'em under my tongue

Mama told me when I was young
Come sit beside me my only son
And listen closely to what I say
And if you do this it'll help you
            Some sunny day oh yeah
Oh take your time don't live too fast
Troubles will come and they will pass
Go find a woman yeah and you'll find love
And don't forget son there is someone up above

              … I guess it's 'cause the truth
Is the hardest thing I ever faced
'Cause you can't change the truth
In the slightest way, I tried

Don't ask me about the years I spent out in the rain
About the ones I spent in love or the ones I spent insane
Don't ask me who I gave my seat to on that plane
                I think you already know
I told you that a long time ago

All 3 good ones TexZ71. I actually posted Old Violin earlier in the thread. Great song. I wish someone would remake it. Maybe Jamey Johnson, or Cody Jinks.

Yes, one of them would be great to remake Old Violin!

I’ve enjoyed this thread. But for the life of me I couldn’t think of a single line from a song, except maybe all of Desperadoes Waiting For a Train.

Then Jerry Jeff told me “the answer my friend, is pi**ing in the sink”.

                                Another one came to me:
“ I reached into my pocket and found three 20’s and a ten, feels so good feeling good again”
