"Some day I hope to walk along heavens street,
I'll still be looking for my taco meat"

If I'm a songwriter and the lyrics, "nobody in his right mind woulda left her", pop in my head I'm already planning retirement from that paycheck.

Darlin' Be Home Soon, John Sebastian

Come and talk of all the things we did today
Here and laugh about our funny little ways
While we have a few minutes to breathe
And I know that it's time you must leave

                But darling be home soon
I couldn't bear to wait an extra minute if you dawdled
                My darling be home soon
It's not just these few hours but I've been waiting since I toddled
For the great relief of having you to talk to

Out in the Country, Three Dog Night

Out where the rivers like to run, I stand alone and bring back something worth remembering...

Great song. David Gates and Bread had a number of them. Went to Tulsa Will Rogers HS. Many good musicians in and out of Tulsa.

                  I'd be with you
Tomorrow and today, beside you all the way.

If the world would stop spinning, slowly down to die
I'd spend the end with you
And when the world was through

Then one by one the stars would go out
Then you and I would simply fly away.

Watch what you say to someone with nothing, it’s almost like having it all.
Song is looking for a job by Todd Snider, redone in the last 10 years by MIckey and the motorcars the entire song is filled with great lines. The one above is my favorite.

                          Song

It’s amazing how you can speak right to my heart
Without saying a word you can light up the dark
Try’ as I may I can never explain
What I hear when you don’t say a thing

The smile on your face lets me know that you need me
There’s a truth in your eyes saying you’ll never leave me
The touch of your hand says you’ll catch me whenever I fall
You say it best when you say nothing at all

I still can hardly get through this song without my eyes watering.

Sunny days seem to hurt the most
I wear the pain like a heavy coat
I feel you everywhere I go
I see your smile, I see your face
I hear you laughing in the rain
                            I still can't believe you're gone
It ain't fair you died too young
Like a story that had just begun
But death tore the pages all away
God knows how I miss you
All the hell that I've been through
Just knowing no one could take your place
Sometimes I wonder who you'd be today
Would you see the world, would you chase your dreams
                            Settle down with a family
I wonder what would you name your babies
Some days the sky's so blue
I feel like I can talk to you
I know it might sound crazy
It ain't fair you died too young
Like a story that had just begun
But death tore the pages all away
God knows how I miss you
All the hell that I've been through
Just knowing no one could take your place
Sometimes I wonder who you'd be today
                            Today, today, today
                            Today, today, today
Sunny days seem to hurt the most
I wear the pain like a heavy coat
The only thing that gives me hope
Is I know I'll see you again someday
                            Someday, someday

Reopen thread after George Jones “He stopped loving her today” and add Charlie Daniel’s “Simple Man”.

                                I ain’t nothin but a simple man
They call me a redneck and I recon that I am
But there’s things goin on that make me mad down to the core
I have to work like a dog to make ends meet
There’s crooked politicians and crime in the street
And I’m madder than hell and I ain’t gonna take it no more

We tell our kids “just say no”
And some panty -waist judge let’s a drug dealer go
Slaps him on the wrist and turns him back out on the town
But if I had my way with people sellin dope
I’d take a big tall tree and a short piece of rope
I’d hang up high and let em swing till the sun goes down

Well you know what’s wrong with the world today
People done gone and put their Bible away
They’re living by the law of the jungle not the law of the land
Well the Good Book says it so I know it’s the truth
An eye for an eye and a tooth for a tooth
You better watch where you go and ember where you’ve been
That’s the way I see it I’m a simple man

Now I’m the kind of man that wouldn’t harm a mouse
But if I catch somebody breaking in my house
I got a 12 -guage shotgun waitin on the other side
So don’t pushin me against my will
I don’t want to fight you but I darn sure will
If you don’t want trouble then you’d better just pass me by

As far as I’m concerned they’re ain’t no excuse
For the rapin and the killin and child abuse
But I’ve got a way to put an end to all that fast
You just take them rascals out in the swamp
Put em on they’re knees and tie em to a stump
Let the rattlers and the bugs and the alligators do the rest

Well you know what’s wrong with the world today
People done gone and put they’re Bible away
