Looks like chinch bugs and one treatment doesn't get them. Also lack of water.

Its a good read but didn't cover brown patch prevention.
For brown patch, I I stop watering late July, no fertilizer, and let the soil dry. Most people do the opposite and water more for the heat but payoff is a better lawn in the fall.
        Good link and information.

That, and if you do water, only water first thing in the morning. Never in the evening.

I hardly ever water my yard, it had to get really bad before I do.

Too much goes wrong with city water, and I have made my grass more tolerant by making them grow deeper roots.

When I do water, I will water for an hour or two, in a two day successive water to make sure it goes really deep.

Lastly, the hotter it gets (and drier), the higher the setting in the lawn mower. I have been on highest setting for a couple months now. I even go without mowing when I know it isn’t going to rain for a good while (even though it is shaggy and looks like it needs mowed).

How short are you mowing at?

Keeping high as I can with this heat and lack of rain.

Hard to tell from the picture but the one looks like something is eating it. I would look for chinch bugs
