We got our first egg from the mystery hens. Now that we see that they will be large brown eggs, we’re pretty sure they are Rhode Island Whites.
The reason there is grass on the egg is because my wife picked her up out of the nesting box because she thought something was wrong with her because she had been sick early on. She was holding her and the hen laid the egg in her arms. It rolled out, down my wife’s leg into the grass. The look on my wife’s face was priceless.
