    What bow for older dad

Curious if there are any bows out there that are better suited for someone over 65 that are easier to draw than others? My Dad has had a few strokes and mmm in the past and by the grace of God is still able to bowhunt with me. But I always have to turn his bow down to 40lbs so he can draw it. So any bows that y’all think he might be able to easily pull a little more weight just by design of being smoother to draw possibly?

Not speaking from experience, but rather the recommendation of an older friend I shot 3d with. He was DIE HARD Mathews for the 10 years I knew him. After his shoulder surgery he switched over to an Elite, I believe it was “The Kure”. It was the only bow at the pro shop that he could draw pain free. He was impressed with the bow overall but it hooked him with the extremely smooth draw. BUT, I never drew the bow myself

40# bows have been killing deer for a long time.

I'd recommend taking him by a pro shop and having him test shoot something if you can. If you're just buying it as a gift, Diamond, Mission, Bear, Elite, and just about any of the big brands make "grow with you bows" that go from 5-70lbs but I don't necessarily consider them smooth for what they are.

About the lowest I've seen a Mathews V3 turned down to is around 48lbs because they're 3 turns max, with 60lb mods.

You can get a 60 lb Bowtech Solution to the high 30s with 60lb limbs because it has fine thread limb bolts. If you wanted 50lb limbs you'd likely have to wait for it and I don't know if you'd get it before the season. In comfort setting they're pretty nice.

Mission makes the MXR which is a stepup from the Switch but it only goes down to 40lbs.

Keep in mind, all of it is going to be subjective. What may feel nice to you, he may not like.
Also, I would not get too hung up on 40lbs. My wife is shooting a Mathews Prima at 34lbs and shes slinging a 380gr arrow in the 240fps range. I won't let her shoot beyond 25, but if she keeps it broadside or quartering shes fine with a 2 blade COC head.

Definitely go to a shop and let him try them out, it's the only way he'll know for sure.

There are several out there he'd probably like. Finding different ones in stock could be a problem but it doesn't hurt to try.

I'm not sure what his draw length is but the Prima from Mathews is available with 40 lb mods and I do believe it can be turned down a bit below that. My wife is shooting one set at 44 lbs and it zips arrows down range perfectly fine. The DL only goes out to 27.5" I believe but one thing I noticed with my V3X 29 is that it seems to draw a little longer than advertised.

Every other bow I've ever had has been set to 30", this one has the 29.5" mods and fits just like the others did at 30"

I am 76 and when I drew an Elite Hunter I was sold. I draw 56-58 lbs and have two of them, equipped identically except for bow quivers.
