    Replacement Engine Control Module supplier?

    Truck maintenance and repair question.

I need to replace my 01 RAM’s ECM. 275k miles and I’m keeping that beast running as long as I can.

There’s an intermittent short or ground affecting the fast idle controller. The Dodge dealers don’t stock it, NAPA needs to ship mine to a depot which took a month for the last customer and O’Reilly only sells the remanufactured units- the Dodge dealer charges $275 to re-flash with my vin. Crazy when they’re under $300 on the internet- flashed.

There’s several suppliers I found on the web. Anybody bought from one snd recommend them?

    Thanks.

I have bought one flashed Dodge computer, I think it was from Flagship 1, or fs1inc.com. That one worked pretty good.

Knowing Dodges, because a buddy of mine likes to collect them, then wants me to keep them running for him. They often have all types of wiring problems. I have repaired so many wiring problems on his Dodges, that I would never have expected to see, but then I have repaired a lot of electrical problems on his trucks that did not surprise me. He has a 01 and a 04 1500. Both of them have had a long list of electrical problems. Seems every time I start looking for an electrical problem in one of his trucks I find at least three serious problems.

I think he has had the computer replaced in his 01 at least twice, very possibly three times.

Thank you for the supplier name.

I owned an 01 RAM 1500 and put 250k+ miles on it (before being t boned at 40-50 and living with a scratch and minor concussion) and 140k of my 2500’s 285k without wiring problems. Maybe I’m just lucky

My buddy's 04, I know I had to take the power distribution box apart and clean out a lot of corrosion, and do some other repairs to the buss bars. Then I had to replace quite a few of the ground wires, because they were corroded. Then I know his 01, the plastic hard shell that the wire terminals are in, that plug into the PCM, just rotted and crumbled. He had wires that fell out of the hard shells, at the computer. I think I had to do some power distribution box repairs on the 01 also.

I’m counting my blessings. Other than the plastic dash which crumbled in the sun and I replaced when the heater core was done, it’s been good. It does have the Gen2 Dodge ‘remove the key while it’s running from the lock’ feature also common in Jeeps.

I sent one to a company in Florida about ten years ago. They refurbished it and a worked great in the Suzuki. SIA Electronics looks like they would redo a 1991-1995 ECM for 175.00.

              Thanks!

I’m getting pricing from both companies.

Yep, Dodge trucks and their dashes. My sister has a 93 or 04 1/2 ton, Dodge, short bed, with a 360 in it. After they had that truck for six to eight years, there was not much dash left, you could see everything behind the dash. Easy access to everything behind the dash. Around 12 years ago, they found a perfect dash or a new dash, don't know, and had the whole dash replaced.

Then my buddy with the two Dodge 1500 trucks, has also had to replace the dash in his 01, his 04 now needs a new dash, along with his Dakota. Then he also has a 02 Camaro SS, that needs a whole new dash. GM and Dodge were definitely buying plastic from the same source back in those days.

FS1inc.com is $278 programmed snd shipped. No core charge.

SIA Electronics only repairs your unit and the truck is our of commission until received.

Placed order, let’s see how it goes.

I understood the mileage was stored in the ECM for display in the dash. They do not need my mileage. How does that work?

Also, I understood the ECM held values for the air mass sensor that were updated as the sensor got ‘dirty’ with mileage. How does that update?

                      Thanks for help.

The ECM will “re-learn” as you drive it. It will run open loop when you first crank it up and will then switch to closed loop as all the sensor data comes online.

                            Replacement Engine Control Module supplier?

The fs1inc.com unit arrived today. It was about a week after I ordered.

It was advertised as refurbished, but the housing looks new. Including waiting 30 minutes after disconnecting the battery, it took about an hour. Only problem was my 1/4” drive extension dropped 2, 8mm sockets in the netherworld between the firewall and fender never to be seen again. Glad I’ve bought boxes of old sockets at garage sales

The idle returned to 1100-1200 rpm. Maybe it was wishful thinking but it ran stronger on a test ride up to 70mph.

                            Thanks again for the help.

                              Glad you got it fixed.

The Lisle magnetic pickup tools have saved my bacon more than once when sockets have dropped into frame rails and underneath vehicles and equipment. I didn’t buy through Amazon. Instead get them from a family owned auto part store. They have the flexible versions too which I also purchased.
